Mass March & Rally in Los AngelesOn October 27, more than 10,000 people came together in Los Angeles to protest the war on Iraq. Participants marched down Broadway to City Hall, and then participated in a symbolic mass "die-in" on Temple Street, while sound effects of air raid sirens and bombs exploding played, dramatically leading up to a solemn minute of silence to remember the Iraqis and U.S. soldiers killed during the war and occupation.
At the rally, speakers included actors Martin Sheen, Mike Farrell, and Mark Ruffalo, as well as Ron Kovic, Vietnam vet and author of "Born on the Fourth of July," and Tim Goodrich and other members of Iraq Veterans Against the War.
This Los Angeles march was initiated by the ANSWER Coalition, in response to the national call for regional actions by United for Peace and Justice. It was organized by the ad hoc Oct. 27 Stop the War Coalition. Click here for a list of coalition members. More than 400 additional organizations and individuals endorsed the Los Angeles protest.
